Drywall is a feature in many homes and buildings across the world, but not all drywall is created equal. Davenport Drywall specializes in both drywall installation and repair to ensure that your building needs are met with quality workmanship. From sheetrock vs. dry wall, we'll do our best to walk you through the process so that you can be confident about your decision as well as understand how it relates to other aspects of construction like insulation!
Drywall is most commonly referred to as Sheetrock, which was made by National Gypsum in 1947. This type of drywall has a paper facing that's installed on one side and then the entire piece is put into place with nails or screws through the air pockets between boards (known as studs). The finished product looks like this:
In contrast, Dry Wall/Gyprock actually comes from Australia and New Zealand where it started out much thicker than what we use here in America. It arguably offers more protection against fire since there are no holes for oxygen to be sucked into while it burns.
Now before we even get started, we'll let you know upfront - drywall is not the best option if you're looking for insulation. It's a terrible insulator and does nothing to contain noise or heat loss, but it doesn't mean it can't be used to help keep your walls straight!
It is typically recommended that drywall not be installed in areas where there will be high levels of moisture (e.g., bathrooms) because the paper on one side absorbs water which then deteriorates the fibers over time.
To summarize: Sheetrock has paper facing on both sides and is nailed or screwed into place; Dry Wall/Gyprock only has paper facing on one side with nails through holes between boards. The latter resists fire better than the former and neither are great insulators.
So how much does drywall cost? The cost will depend on the size of your installation, but usually a yard (which is 25 square feet) can range anywhere from $15 to $60.
Pricing: Our drywall prices are relatively low because our company supplies everyone needs for their home improvement project.
